APPLICATION DEADLINES FOR SEPTEMBER 2013

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Please be advised that admission to the program is highly competitive and meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.

A relevant four-year Bachelor’s degree
First class standing (at UBC, 80% or higher) in upper-level genetics, biochemistry, and statisticss (biometrics)
Research experience
Excellent references
GPA requirements: a minimum overall average n the B+ range (76% at UBC) in third and fourth-year courses and at least 12 credits of third- or fourth-year courses in the A grade range (80% or higher at UBC) in coursework relevant to medical genetics
GRE: optional but preferred

Note: Applicants do not need to secure a graduate supervisor until they are deemed admissible.

ADDITIONAL INTERNATIONAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

GPA requirements: refer to the Faculty of Graduate Studies’ Minimum Academic Requirements for International Credentials guidelines
English requirements: TOEFL score of at least 100 or IELTS score of at least 7.0

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Complete and submit the online application form.
Your referees will be sent a secure link to the online UBC reference form. Referees who do not have professional email addresses must mail a paper reference form and/or letter in a sealed and endorsed envelope to the Medical Genetics Graduate Program Office
You must submit two official copies for each school attended in sealed and endorsed envelopes to the Medical Genetics Graduate Program office. International students must submit two official copies of all transcripts and degree certificates in the original language (if applicable) in addition to two copies of certified English translations of these documents.

ADMISSION PROCESS

Completed applications are reviewed by the Medical Genetics Graduate Program Admissions Committee. Applicants will be advised of the Admissions Committee’s decision by email.
Applicants deemed admissible must secure the commitment of a research supervisor in the Department of Medical Genetics who agrees to provide supervision and financial support. Once a supervisor is secured, the applicant must inform the Medical Genetics Graduate Assistant.
Admissible applicants will be recommended for admission to the Faculty of Graduate Studies by the Medical Genetics Graduate Program. Following the Faculty’s review, the successful applicant will be issued an official acceptance letter to Graduate Studies at the University of British Columbia. International students must present this acceptance letter when applying for a study permit.
